Clearwater County had a busy agenda this week, here is a look back at some of their highlights.
Land Use Bylaw Rewrite Project Kickoff
After the May 2023 update of the Municipal Development Plan (MDP), the 2001 Land Use Bylaw requires renewal. Council approved proceeding with the Land Use Bylaw rewrite project, endorsing its Schedule, Assumptions, and Communications/Engagement Plan. This project will start with a series of kick-off events, including in-person open houses in Nordegg, Rocky Mountain House, Caroline, Leslieville, and a virtual event for remote attendees all starting September 19th, 2023. Bylaw Enforcement / Compliance Officer Appointment
Council appointed Theodore Magee as Clearwater County Bylaw Enforcement/Compliance Officer effective August 22, 2023, for the duration of his employment. This newly created role will investigate complaints relating to Clearwater County’s Land Use Bylaw (LUB) and provide a combination of education and enforcement services. Other key responsibilities include site inspections and a variety of administrative tasks related to tracking compliance with the LUB.
STARS Foundation Delegation
Council received the STARS Foundation update as presented, and will consider STARS Foundation’s annual request for funding during 2024 budget deliberations.
Clearwater County Financial Reports
Council received the Clearwater County Capital and Operating Financial Reports as of July 31, 2023, as presented. Council approved reallocation of $61,596 in the 2023 Capital budget from Work In Progress Restricted Surplus to Heritage for the Nordegg Discovery Centre project.
Local Highways Management Bylaw 1145/23
Council granted first reading of the Local Highways Management Bylaw 1145/23 for the purpose of regulating the use of local highways under the direction, control, and management of Clearwater County.
2023 Alberta Games Bid
Clearwater County and the Town of Rocky Mountain House have submitted a joint bid to be the hosts of the 2026 Alberta Summer Games. The successful host community will be officially announced in November by the Minister of Culture. Council directed Administration to allocate $300,000 in the 2024 Community & Agriculture Services Recreation operating budget for the event.
Public Member Appointments to Agriculture Appeal Board
Council appointed public members to the Agriculture Appeal Board for a term effective August 22, 2023 expiring October 24, 2023. Council appointed Tracy Haight as a designated officer to serve as Municipal Secretary to the Agriculture Appeal Board, for a term effective August 22, 2023 and for the duration of her employment.
