A member of the Rocky Mountain Bike Park Society went before both town and county councils last week to offer them an update on their initiatives and also come forward with a funding request.
Grant Anderson, Vice President, Rocky Mountain Bike Park Society, presentenced both county and town councils with an update on the development of a pump/bike track park in Rocky Mountain House.
Anderson said, the Society is seeking a commitment from Clearwater County and the Town of Rocky Mountain House councils for $250,000 each in capital funding in 2024, along with an extra $100,000 from each council for contingency in 2025.
Anderson says, the Society will benefit from a financial commitment from the Town and County to support its lobbying efforts for Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) funding, even though the Town and County funds won’t be needed until the first quarter of 2024.
Once all funding is confirmed, the final park design will be carried out in early 2024.
For consideration of this request, as per Council’s Meeting Procedures Bylaw 1080, section 20.3, administration will prepare a background report and recommendations for presentation to council at a future meeting.
Rocky Mountain House town council made a motion to add $250,000 in the operating budget, for the 2024 budget for the pump track park. Officials say this way it’s not a commitment of the money, but it will move it into the budget process. The motion was carried unanimously.
Meanwhile, Clearwater County accepted the presentation as information as they wait until 2024 budget meetings.
