Local parents and their children will have an opportunity this week to hear a presentation regarding internet safety.
The Medicine River Crime Watch Society is coming to Rocky Mountain House to do a presentation on the dangers of social media and how to keep children safe.
Organizers say the presentation will focus on education, prevention, and putting parents and teachers in a position to protect their children from online sexual exploitation.
The presenters are expected to discuss the role of the Internet Child Exploitation unit (ICE) in Alberta, current applications, internet platforms, and additional resources available to parents.
The guest speaker at the event is Sergeant Kerry Shima – a member of the Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation unit which investigates incidents of child luring, extortion, possession, transmission, and making of child pornography, as well as internet-related voyeurism involving youth.
The presentation on the dangers of social media and other internet traps is Nov. 2, at the Eckville Community Centre. Doors up at 6:30 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 7:00 p.m.. The event is free for the public.
