The Rocky Rams struggled over the weekend, dropping both games.
On Friday, the Rams travelled to Sylvan Lake to play their rivals, the Wranglers, but lost 8-3.
In the first period, the Rams would open the scoring at 10:22 after Jake Smith would find the back of the net for a shorthanded goal. Reid Christiansen got the only assist. However, the lead would be short lived as the Wranglers would tie the game 1-1 at 11:20 on the powerplay. Bret Gerrits got credit for his fourth goal of the year. Riley Teulon and Reed Sparrow earned the assists. The Wranglers, would then take a 2-1 lead at 12:04 after Maddex Bignell would find the back of the net. Owen Callow and Brody Pearson earned the assists. The Rams would then strike back to tie the game 2-2 late in the opening period after Tristian Hoffus got his seventh goal of the year. Nick Jervis and Eric Layden got the assists. The Wranglers would keep pushing late in the period, and it would pay off as Ryan Wyzykoski would push them to a 3-2 lead. Hayden Motowylo and Bret Gerrits earned the assists. Throughout the first period the Rams would get outshot 11-6.
In the second period, the Wranglers would jump to a two goal lead 4-2, after a powerplay goal from Tyson Tisdale. The assists came from the sticks of Justin Gyori and Reed Sparrow. The Rams would then make it a 4-3 game with a powerplay goal of their own thanks to Jake Smith. Nick Jervis and Reid Christiansen earned the assists. However, just before the second period came to an end the Wranglers would re-claim a two goal lead at 16:17 after an unassisted Reed Sparrow goal. The Rams would also get outshot in the second period 20-7.
The third period was all Wranglers as they would strike just over five minutes into the third period to take a 6-3 lead. Austin Corsiatto would get credit for the goal. Riley Teulon earned the lone assist. At 15:19 the Wranglers would make it a 7-3 lead after a Ryan Wyzykoski goal. The assists came from Brody Pearson and Hayden Motowylo. Then, just as the game was about to wrap up, Austin Corsiatto made it 8-3 which would be the final score. Reed Sparrow was credited with the lone assist. In the third period, the Rams would get outshot 19-3. Throughout the game the Wranglers more than doubled the Rams in shots, 50-16.

On Saturday, the Rams were back at home to face off against the Carstar Okotoks Bisons.
The Rams would skate away from this one with a 6-4 victory.
In the first period, the Bisons had full control and opened the scoring at 8:57 after an Adam Kirkpatrick goal. Lucas Watkins had the lone assist. Just under four minutes later, the Bisons took a 2-0 lead after Brayden Kapty found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Lucas Watkins would gather the only assist. Just under a minute after Kapty’s goal the Bisons would make it 3-0 after a Jake Snashall powerplay goal. Easton Dean and Lucas Watkins earned the assists. The Bisons would make it 4-0 at 15:18 when Jakob Semeniuk would score his seventh goal of the year. Meanwhile, the Rams would get on the scoresheet at 16:09, after Reid Christiansen would find the back of the net to make it 4-1. Jake Smith and Grady Mofford teamed up for the assists. At the end of the period the Rams would get outshot 14-4.
In the second period, the Rams would open up the scoring early at 1:07 after Quinn Tomalty found the back of the net to make it 4-2. Reid Christiansen and Tristan Hoffus gathered the assists. However, Bisons forward Jakob Semeniuk would get his second goal of the game at 8:59 and would give the Bisons a 5-2 lead. The Rams would get back within two goals after Reid Christiansen would find the back of the net for his second goal of the evening. Kyle Humphrey and Nick Jervis earned the assists. Heading into the final frame, the Rams were down 5-3. The Rams would also get outshot 13-7 in the second period.
In the third, the Rams would open the scoring just 47 seconds into the period and it would be Reid Christiansen who would complete the hat-trick, making it a 5-4 game. However, the Bisons would add an empty net goal at 18:42 which would put the game out of reach for the Rams. The Rams would fall 6-4. During the third period the Rams would get outshot 12-7. The final count on shots for the game was the Bisons with 39 and the Rams with 18.
The losses drop the Rams record to 7-6-1, good for second place in the HJHL’s Northern Division.
The Rams look to get back to their winning ways on Friday when they travel to Mountainview for a game with the 4-6-3 Colts. Puck drop is at 8:00 p.m. at the Didsbury Memorial Complex Arena.
