A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a man accused in a central Alberta homicide this spring.
Boyd Wade Beaverbones, 26, a resident of the O’Chiese First Nation, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Rocky Mountain House Court of Justice on July 16, 2024, to determine if his case has enough evidence to go to trial.
It was on May 8, 2023, when Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a report of a shooting on the O’Chiese First Nation. Upon arrival, Mounties say 31-year-old Brett Roan was found deceased. His manner of death was deemed to be a homicide.
According to police, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit were called in to investigate and an arrest warrant was obtained for Boyd Beaverbones.
On May 29, 2023, Boyd Beaverbones was arrested on O’Chiese First Nation.
RCMP say Beaverbones was charged with second degree murder. That charge, however, has since been upgraded to first-degree murder.
