UPDATE – 8 p.m., Jan. 5
Rocky Mountain House RCMP say one person has died as a result of a multi-vehicle crash east of town on Friday, Jan. 5.
The collision took place around 9 a.m. on Highway 11 near Range Road 45, the turn-off to go north to Condor.
Upon arrival, emergency crews located a deceased person inside one of the vehicles, and has since been identified as a 17-year-old resident of Clearwater County.
Three other vehicles, including a semi truck, had various levels of damage. The occupants of the other vehicles sustained minor injuries.
Crews had the highway blocked for several hours while police investigated and the semi was removed. The highway is now open.
“Although early in the investigation, police believe that the deceased struck an oncoming semi truck. Two other vehicles then struck the semi as it lost control,” RCMP say. “Police believe that heavy fog and icy roads were factors in the collision.”
Alberta RCMP offer their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
