The Rocky Rams split their road games over the weekend.
On Friday the Rams travelled to Sylvan Lake for a date with the Wranglers, unfortunately the Rams would fall 5-2.
In the first period, the Rams would get on the scoreboard first at 17:57 after Tristan Hoffus would score an unassisted goal beating Wranglers goalie Peyton Lobe. Throughout the first period the Rams would manage to get six shots, but the Wranglers would outshoot the Rams, putting up 13 shots of their own.
In the second period, the Wranglers came out firing which led to the Wranglers tying the game 1-1 at 5:02. Owen Callow would get credit for his 14th goal of the season, while Reed Sparrow and Hunter Adrian earned the assists. The Wranglers would then take a 2-1 lead just 11 seconds after tying the game, as Hudson Elgert got his third goal of the season. Derek Wagner earned the assist. The Wranglers would then take a 3-1 lead after Justin Vandermeer snuck a goal by Rams goalie Lex Watson, with the assists coming off the sticks of Justin Gyori and Riley Tuelon. Then, before the period ended, the Wranglers would make it a 4-1 game after Reed Sparrow found the back of the net for his 16th goal of the season. Nolan Holub and Ashlain Dufresne picked up the assists. Throughout the second period the Wranglers would more than double the Rams in shots 20-7.
In the final frame, the Rams would make it a 4-2 game after Jakob Weimer scored at 5:26, with the assists coming off the sticks of Grady Mofford and Reid Christiansen. However, Wranglers forward Ethan Wyzykoski would make it a 5-2 game just over a minute later. Wyzykoski’s goal would also be the final goal of the game, and Derek Wagner would earn the lone assist. The Rams would outshoot the Wranglers in the final frame 11-10. However, it was the Wranglers outshooting the Rams throughout the game 43-24.

On Saturday the Rams would bounce back with a 5-3 win over the Airdrie Techmation Thunder.
In the first period, the Rams would strike first at 17:46 after Kyle Goodrunning would get his seventh goal of the year. Quinn Tomalty and Jakob Weimer earned the assists. Goodrunning’s goal would be the only goal of the period to give the Rams a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. The Rams would also get outshot by the Thunder 20-5.
In the second period, the Thunder would tie the game 1-1 after Jeremy Jobin would score on the powerplay. Grady Hauk and Tyson Sandhu got credit for the assists. The tie game didn’t last long though as the Rams would take a 2-1 lead at 7:59 due to an Owen Green goal. Tristan Hoffus and Jake Smith earned the assists. The Rams would then increase their lead to 3-1 after Quinn Tomalty earned his 10th goal of the season. Reid Christiansen and Jakob Weimer assisted on the play. The Rams would make it 4-1 shortly afterwards with a powerplay goal of their own. It was Caleb Andrew who picked up his first goal of the season with the assists coming from Jake Smith and Grady Mofford. In the second period the Rams would outshoot the Thunder 13-9.
In the third period, the Rams would improve their lead to 5-1 after Quinn Tomalty picked up his second goal of the game and 11th of the season. Reid Christiansen and Kyle Goodrunning earned the assists. Meanwhile, the Thunder would try to spark a comeback after Justin LeGrandeur made it 5-2. Reed Chalmers picked up the only assist. With momentum on their side, the Thunder would make it 5-3 after Ryder Terpstra would sneak one by Rams goalie Zaiden Hansen. Will Barrett and Tyson Sandhu earned the assists. It was too little to0 late for Airdrie though, as the Rams would skate away with a 5-3 victory. In the third period the Rams would get outshot 17-9 and 46-27 throughout the game.
After the weekend, the Rams hold a record of 13-14-3 and now sit in third place in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Northern Division.
The Rams return home for their next game when the Red Deer Vipers come to town. The Vipers have a record of 9-21-0 and sit in sixth place in the Northern Division.
