The Rocky Rams had a great weekend, beating the Mountainview Colts twice and taking a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five first round playoff series.
On Saturday, the Rams travelled to Didsbury Memorial Complex Arena for Game 1.
In the first period, the Rams would strike first just 2:41 into the game on the powerplay. Tristan Hoffus would get credit for his first playoff goal. Jake Smith and Caleb Andrew earned the assists. Then, at 12:32, Tristan Hoffus would strike for his second goal of the game to make it 2-0 which was also on the powerplay. Kyle Humphrey and Grady Mofford gathered the assists. Despite their two goal lead in the period, however, the Rams would get outshot 15-11.
In the second period, the Rams would go up 3-0 after a Jase Bernett goal. Reid Christiansen and Jakob Weimer earned the assists. Just over two minutes later, the Rams would finally give up a goal to Colts forward Haiden Parks, which came on the powerplay. Paton Rothenbusch and Steven Bell earned the assists. However, just 53 seconds later the Rams would reclaim a three goal lead after the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player, Reid Christiansen, found the back of the net to give the Rams a 4-1 lead. Kyle Humphrey and Grady Mofford earned the assists. The Rams powerplay would strike again late in the second period for their third goal giving the Rams a 5-1 lead. Kyle Humphrey would get credit with the goal. The assists came off the sticks of Grady Mofford and Tristan Hoffus. Throughout the second period the Rams would get outshot 11-8.
In the final period, no goals were scored and the Rams would hold onto a 5-1 victory in game one of the best five. The Rams in the final period would also get more than doubled in shots 16-4 with the final shots being 42-23 in favour of the Colts.
Rams goalie Zaiden Hansen had a great game between the pipes and would get credit for the win, stopping 41 of the 42 shots he faced.

On Sunday, the Rams were back in action, this time, hosting the Colts at the Rocky Arena.
In the first period, the Rams would draw first blood for the second game in a row after a Jake Smith goal. Grady Mofford and Tristian Hoffus earned the assists. However, the Colts would end up tying the game 1-1 just past the halfway mark in the period. Steven Bell would get credit for the goal. Paton Rothenbusch earned the only assist. After the first period, the Rams would outshoot the Colts 14-7.
In the second period, the Rams would again outshoot the Colts 13-7. There would only be one penalty in the second period though which went to the Colts, and unfortunately, the Rams powerplay couldn’t find the back of the net.
In the final frame, the Rams powerplay would strike at 14:50 giving the Rams a 2-1 lead. Quinn Tomalty would get credit for his first goal of the playoffs. Reid Christiansen and Noah Wilson earned the assists. The Rams would later add an empty net goal to put the icing on the cake at 19:19 to give the Rams a 3-1 victory in game two of their best of five. Throughout the final period the Colts would outshoot the Rams 11-9. However, the Rams would outshoot the Colts throughout the game 36-25.
Rams goalie Zaiden Hansen had another stellar game for the Rams, stopping 24 of the 25 shots he faced. During the weekend playoff games, Zaiden Hansen won both of his starts, stopping 65 of the 67 shots faced for a .970 save per-centage.
Heading into game three, the Rams will have a chance at the sweep. Game three puck drop is back in Mountainview at 7:15 at the Didsbury Memorial Complex Arena on Feb. 28.
If a game four is needed, it will happen back at the Rocky Arena on March 1, with puck drop at 8:30 p.m..
