The Rocky Rams returned to action for game three of the best of five series with the Mountainview Colts Wednesday night, who are on the brink of elimination.
However, the Rams would fall short losing to the Colts 6-3.
In the first period, it would be the Colts getting on the scoresheet first after a unassisted short-handed goal from Steven Bell. The lead for the Colts would be short-lived as the Rams would tie the game 1-1 just over three minutes later after a Quinn Tomalty goal. Clyde Goodrunning and Clayton Johnson earned the assists. The Rams, would then take a 2-1 lead after Jake Smith scored his third goal of the postseason. Kyle Humphrey and Reid Christiansen earned the assists. Almost one minute later Steven Bell from the Colts would tie the game 2-2 after he got his second unassisted goal of the period. Throughout the first period the Rams outshot the Colts 15-9.
In the second period, the Rams would score on the powerplay at 8:24. Tristian Hoffus would get credit for his third goal of the postseason giving the Rams a 3-2 lead. Caleb Andrew and Grady Mofford earned the assists. However, once again the Colts would end up tying the game 3-3 after Aidan Saunders scored his first of the postseason at 11:46, with Kai Biggin and Mitchell McDermid earning the assists. Then, just seven seconds later the Colts would claim their first lead of the game 4-3 after Simon Leischner found the back of the net. The Colts would improve their lead to 5-3 as the period was winding down. Kai Biggin would get credit for his first goal of the postseason. Aidan Saunders earned the loan assist. Throughout the second period the Rams would outshoot the Colts again 14-7.
In the final period, Steven Bell would score another unassisted goal on the empty net at 17:52, completing the hat-trick and helping the Colts skate away with a 6-3 victory. In the final period the Colts would outshoot the Rams 13-12. However, throughout the game the Rams would post 41 shots on goal to the Colts 29.
With the Rams falling to the Colts, the series will now head back to Rocky for game four with the Rams leading the series 2-1. Game four is set for March 1, at the Rocky Arena. Puck drop is at 8:30 p.m.
If a game five is needed to finish the series, it will be held on March 2, at the Didsbury Memorial Complex Arena, with puck drop at 8:00 p.m.
