Members of Parliament are absent from the House of Commons as Canadians mourn the death of former prime minister Brian Mulroney.
Yellowhead MP Gerald Soroka said, “Canada has lost a great person with the passing of the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney. Although I did not have the honour of a personal relationship with him, as my political career began after his time in office, his influence on our nation and the Conservative movement is unparalleled.”
“Mr. Mulroney’s ascent from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of Canadian politics embodies the true spirit of opportunity in our country. His leadership brought about monumental economic and social reforms, including the historic free trade agreement that continues to benefit Canadians today,” added Soroka.
As Soroka joins fellow Canadians in mourning, he extended his heartfelt condolences to his family, wife Mila, and his children Caroline, Ben, Mark, and Nicolas.
Soroka added, “Brian Mulroney’s legacy of principled governance, economic foresight, and international solidarity will forever inspire and guide us. May we honour his memory by upholding the values of freedom and opportunity he championed.”
