A popular Rocky Mountain House famers market is on the move.
Originally established in 1976, the Town & Country Farmers’ Market was previously held at the Rocky Museum.
Organizer Shannon Noirot says a new location will provide space for more vendors. “We have decided that in order to facilitate room for growth and expansion, because there’s been so many up-and-coming home-based businesses that [we] have decided to partner with the Legion in Rocky Mountain House and move to their lower-level basement.”
Starting April 6, the market will be held at R.L Zengel V.C Br. No. 08 of the Royal Canadian Legion on 49th street. As Noirot notes, this isn’t the first time the market has moved locations. “Years ago, [we] were in the old curling rink, before it [became] The Christensen Center. And now it’s the Rec Center. When that change happened, we moved to the museum. We’ve been at the museum a little over twelve years and [we] just need some space to grow.”
Noirot says the new location offers up a lot of advantages. “We’ve got a parking lot that can accommodate twenty five vehicles. We can set up more tents outside in the summertime. We can work in conjunction with the town because we’re closer to main street. It gives us an opportunity to work in conjunction with other community events.”
Noirot also hopes the extra space will help facilitate what she sees as changing consuming habits. “We just need some space to grow. The economy is changing. People’s livelihoods are changing. Everybody is diving back into the ‘let’s shop local’, ‘let’s support local’, ‘let’s see what we have as assets in our own community in order to see everyone else survive’.”
The market runs Saturdays 10 AM- 1 PM.
