With springtime weather comes Rugby season. Parents are invited to sign their kids up for the upcoming season which will run May 7th to June 25th.

Local representative & coach with Orca Rugby Association, Rachel Lothian says it’s a first-of-it’s-kind program for the region.

“Rocky Rugby is new. It’s the first ever year it’s been in Rocky. Rocky has always had high school programs ran through West Central. They’ve include St. Dom’s, Caroline and David Thompson High School as well. But this is the first program to reach Rocky for flag unisex rugby for youth offering ages 5-15.”

Lothian says the program is all about having fun.

“It’s flag rugby. So if there’s any hesitant parents it’s just a good introduction to rugby. There’s no contact, no tackling so it’s a very safe introductory. It’s perfect for ages five to 15. If you’re a little weary on the contact, flag rugby is where it’s at.”
