A special tea and coffee fundraiser benefitting the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre Auxiliary is coming up May 9, and all are invited to attend.
Featuring an afternoon of tea and baked goods such as angel food cake, strawberries and whipped cream for a $6 donation, the fundraiser will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church (5108 50 Street).
Rosemary Brown, former auxiliary president, says that along with providing an annual bursary to a student pursuing a health care-related career, the organization also supplies care-and-comfort items to the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre.
“Over the years, we’ve bought mattresses, tray tables, televisions in the patient rooms, the ice machine in active care, a baby scale, and a syringe pump for the operating room,” says Brown. “We also provide teddy bears for children who go to the ER or the lab, and tray favours for all the in-patients during all the holidays.”
Lorna Beck, auxiliary member, says even if you can’t attend the tea, there’s an option for take-out.
“We will have takeout capacity,” says Beck. “People can just show up, we are prepared for people to drop in. If you want to take something out, it’s no problem.”
Beck adds there will be 50/50 tickets and raffle tickets available for $2 each. Raffle items include six strawberry perennial baskets.
Brown adds the annual fundraiser’s springtime date coincides with health care legend Florence Nightingale’s birthday on May 12.
