Extreme cold continues to grip Alberta, plunging some areas into record low temperatures.
The entire province remains under an Extreme Cold Warning with freezing temperatures well below the seasonal average and wind chills that made the air feel like -40 to even -55.
The breathtaking temperatures had at least 15 communities across the province setting new daily temperature records on Monday.
The Edmonton International Airport set a new record low of -41.6 C on Monday. The old record was -38 C, set in 1992.
More records were broken as well, Nordegg set a new record of -40.7 on Dec. 27, beating the old record of -39.4 set back in 1968, Records in that area have been kept since 1915. Nordegg wasn’t alone, however, as the Sundre area set a record of -40.9 on Dec. 27, beating the old record of -36.2 set in 1966. Records in that area have been kept since 1993.
During this cold weather, Environment Canada is encouraging you to limit your time spent outside, as it only takes minutes to develop frostbite in these conditions.
