A Rocky Mountain House organization that lends medical equipment to those recovering from surgery or suffering from short term injuries is hosting a fundraising garage sale May 31- June 1.
Officials say since 2016, the organization has been lending out equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, bathroom aids and more.
Kathy Snyder, executive director of the Medical Equipment Lending Society of West Central Alberta (or the M.E.L. Society for short), says while it receives a $10,000 grant from the Town and County, fundraisers are key to keeping the lights on.
“Every year our funding model changes,” says Snyder. “But the support from the community is phenomenal, as always.”
Organizers say the yard sale is to be held May 31 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m., right at the M.E.L Society Building (4907 – 44 Street, Rocky Mountain House).
Snyder says proceeds from the fundraiser will go into the organization’s general coffers to cover rent, utilities and a single salary.
The garage sale will features many different items including housewares, books, bicycles, and much more, says Snyder.
