Competition has wrapped up at the Alberta Women’s Senior Championship, with southern Alberta golfer Celina Lam defending her championship title.
Officials say the final round of the Alberta Women’s Senior Championship started with challenging rain but finished in sunshine, and all in all, the Pine Hills Golf Club in Rocky Mountain House was a great venue for the championship.
Defending champion Celina Lam from The Canal at Delacour in Rocky View County started the day with a one stroke lead, but four golfers were within four shots of Lam.
After Lam drained a birdie putt on the 14th hole, it was all but over as the defending champion was one-under for the day and seven shots clear.
Even with some bogeys on the final stretch, Lam cruised to a four stroke victory to defend her title.
“The golf course was great, the people were very good here, and all the competitors, we’re all friends,” says Lam.
While winning relatively comfortably in 2024, Lam won the Alberta Women’s Senior Championship in 2023 by closer margin, and was a runner-up in 2022. Lam says her game continues to improve every year, particularly her putting.
Lam, who won the 2023 tournament at Coyote Creek Golf Resort in Sundre, praised the Pine Hills Golf Club as a beautiful course with a great tree line and a great place for competition.
Sandra Turbide who made the trip from British Columbia to compete had the round of the day, a 1-over 74 with 2 birdies and 3 bogeys to finish runner up.

The Alberta Interprovincial Team that will compete at nationals consists of Celina Lam, Lynn Kuehn and Lisa Hall.
The National Women’s Senior Championship will be held Aug. 27-29 at The Club at North Halton in Georgetown, Ontario.

The tournament, which was open to women age 50-plus, was divided into three age categories, says John Deneer, director of competition and athlete development with Alberta Golf.
In the super senior category, Jackie Little from Balfour Golf Course in British Columbia finished 4th overall and won the title for competitors over the age of 60.

The Diamond Champion for competitors over the age of 70 went to Lynda Palahniuk from Kelowna Golf & Country Club.
