A series of public engagement sessions aimed at garnering support for the RCMP in Alberta is coming to Rocky Mountain House next week.
The Keep Alberta RCMP Community Engagement Tour, hosted by the National Police Federation (NPF), will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8 (4911 49 Street) in Rocky, starting at 2 p.m.
Officials say the provincial government is looking at options to improve Alberta’s place in Canada as part of the ‘Fair Deal Panel Review”. The panel’s recommendations include replacing the RCMP with what the NPF says is an expensive new Provincial Police Service.
NPF officials say a recent survey conducted by Pollara from Oct 27 to Nov 4, 2021, shows that Albertans support the Alberta RCMP and do not support the government’s proposal:
• 84% want to keep the RCMP and only 9% of Albertans support the proposed transition.
• 92% want a full detailed accounting of the full costs of transition before any decision is made.
• 80% of Albertans served by the RCMP are consistently satisfied with the Alberta RCMP. (Over 80% are satisfied in rural central communities)
The National Police Federation is inviting all Albertans to join them in learning more about the Government of Alberta’s proposed provincial police service and have their say on the future of policing in Alberta through their KeepAlbertaRCMP engagement tour.
The NFP is hosting live and virtual meetings across the province to share what it says is clear and factual information and to hear the public’s thoughts, concerns and questions.
Due to COVID-19 regulations, all venues are participating in the Restrictions Exemption Program and as such, all participants must comply with the restrictions including proof of vaccination and Masks. The RCMP are asking all participants to RSVP to ensure they stay within capacity limits and so that they can contact you should any details change.
