Clearwater County crews have had a busy summer with road paving work in the east end of the county either complete or nearing completion.
According to Kate Reglin, capital projects supervisor with Clearwater County, roads that received a fresh overlay of pavement include Bunch Rd., Taimi Rd. from Hwy. 11 to Township 40-0, Beaver Flats Rd. and Airport Access Rd.
Reglin says the budget also included some overlay and base pave work in the Hamlet of Leslieville.
All internal roads in Leslieville are scheduled to receive a mix of overlay and micro surfacing, says Reglin, with base pavement work also set for the Leslieville Recreation Area access road, parking lot and trail.
Completion for those projects is slated for mid-August, says Reglin.
Reglin says base paving work at the Leslieville Elks Hall parking lot has been completed.
The Hamlet of Leslieville resurfacing budget is $640,000, says Reglin, adding the project is anticipated to be on budget.
The average life expectancy of an asphalt surface is approximately 15 years, says Reglin. As part of the County’s surfaced road management regime, an asphalt overlay is applied on a rotation throughout the county.
Officials say the County’s total 2024 local road budget is $5,554,000, and is projected to be $300,000 under budget.
With the remaining budget, Reglin says the County was able to complete asphalt patch work along Airport Rd. (Township 40-0).
The County overlays approximately 23 km per year, says Reglin, with priorities set considering utilization, condition and existing structure.
Reglin adds, during its yearly assessment, some items County officials look for are alligator cracking, wheel ruts, linear cracking, shoulder failure and pot holes.
No other roads are budgeted for paving work in 2024, say officials, with current projects having a completion deadline of Oct. 15, 2024.
