Senior management team members from the Town of Rocky Mountain House are set to be formally recognized at an upcoming Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) gala.
In a letter from Abmunis President Tyler Gandam, Rocky’s senior management team was selected ‘based on their numerous examples of distinction in municipal government and leadership in service excellence’.
The letter, addressed to Rocky Mountain House CAO Dean Krause, as well as to Mayor Debbie Baich, invites the team to attend the ABmunis President’s Dinner at the Red Deer Resort and Casino on Tuesday, Sept. 24, where other Alberta Municipalities Award winners will be recognized.
Among the departments being recognized are the managers of corporate services, parks and recreation, planning and development, public works, as well as the Town’s CAO.
“Of those five people, they’ve got decades of experience. We’ve got a very experienced team at the Town of Rocky Mountain House” says Coun. Len Phillips. “It’s a kudos to show that they’re doing a great job, and ABmunis recognizes that, so well done.”
Phillips highlights the achievements of corporate services, led by Director Betty Quinlan.
“In the last three years we have received an award for our accounting. The way we report it, the way Municipal Affairs gets it,” says Phillips. “It’s outstanding, because there’s quite a bit of criteria that’s formed to create the award, and we’ve consistently been able to achieve that”

Qulinlan says while she’s grateful for the recognition, it’s not just those at the top, but everyone involved with the Town of Rocky Mountain House that are key to making the organization work.
Alberta Municipalities has a checklist of criteria for municipal accounting, says Phillips, and the Town of Rocky Mountain House consistently gets high marks under Quinlan’s leadership.
All department leads are deserving of recognition, says Phillips, though he also points out the hard work of Wes Amendt, Director of Parks and Recreation, whose hard work with the pool, arena, as well as Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) is outstanding.
Phillips also credits the Director of Planning, Dean Schweder with working alongside town council to attract new business to the community with innovative ideas.

The snow removal program in Rocky Mountain House is the envy of many communities, says Phillips, which is thanks to Rob Shanks, Director of Engineering & Operations and his team.
The recognition involves the teams getting called up onstage and receiving an award.
“The residents of Rocky Mountain House should know that they have a very well experienced senior management team that is working in the best interest of residents,” says Phillips. “They can be well assured that things are being well taken care of, and the town is in good hands.”
