Everyone from far and wide is welcome to Leslieville for the community’s annual Block Party, set to take place near the Leslieville Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Organizers say the day will be chock full of free family events including wagon rides, live music, balloon twisting, face painting and bouncy castles.
Firefighters from Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services will be on hand as well, say organizers, with a fire truck where kids can get an up-close look.
The event will have plenty of food, say organizers, with a BBQ provided and local vendors selling their fare.
As well, the event will feature a pie and fall preserve contest, in which participants will be showing off their greatest homemade creations for a chance to win prizes.
Additionally, the music at the event is going to taken up a level, says Melissa Wright, board member of the Leslieville Community Center, as local band Ginger Snap will be taking the stage.
“In previous years we’ve had some live entertainment, this is the first time we’ve had one solo act that will be performing,” says Wright. “We’re really excited for that. We’re looking forward to seeing the different dynamic that our attendees experience.”
Ginger Snap is made up of members from around the West Country region that performs a mix of covers of popular songs as well as original compositions.
Returning to the Leslieville Community Block Party for a second year is the Rocky Mountain House-based Western Wheels Auto Club, which will be bringing in their cool rides for a show ‘n shine event.
“So excited to have them. They were out last year and they were phenomenal. So good,” says Wright.

Wright also adds, the Rolling Garage will be part of the event. It is an organization that not only shows off motorcycles, but also raises awareness for those suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) including veterans and first responders.
Local residents hoping to have an input on what they’d like to see at a fledgling community green space project are also invited to speak with Clearwater County officials who will be on hand for the event.
“We think that we’re going to get some great ideas of what might be a community need beyond a small children’s playground,” says Matt Martinson, director of agricultural services for Clearwater County.
Martinson says a playground structure is scheduled to be built at the site mid-September.

Organized by the Leslieville Community Center, Wright says the event is made possible through not only fundraising efforts throughout the year, but also generous donations from local companies and organizations, and the help of volunteers who generously give their time.
“We’re really hoping for a wonderful turnout this year,” says Wright. “It’s gearing up to be a wonderful year, really looking forward to it.”
The block party will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
