Rocky Mountain House town council has adopted its strategic plan to establish governance priorities for the next several years.
The plan was the culmination of several strategic planning sessions, as well as a review of the 2010 Community Sustainability Plan.
The 2024-2026 Strategic Plan was built around ‘five pillars’ of community development: economic, social, environmental, cultural, and governance.
Acting Mayor Len Phillips says its these pillars that will guide council when making any sort of decision.
For the ‘economic’ pillar, recommended principles include increasing access to downtown and promoting year-round events in the downtown core.
Also, to help Rocky be recognized as a destination by promoting the community as a sports tourism destination, among other initiatives.
For the ‘social’ pillar, a stated goal is to ensure town residents have the critical services they need.
As well, it calls for council to explore plans for an expanded recreation centre.
“There are many infrastructure grants available for shovel-ready projects only,” says Phillips. “That means if a funding opportunity comes along for a recreation facility, we need to have our ducks in a row.”
The ‘Environmental’ pillar would see a review of town facilities to determine its environmental impact.
The ‘Cultural’ pillar would look to enhance cultural capital and diversity within the community with initiatives such as an annual town-hosted cultural event.
Finally, ‘Governance’ would see town officials committing to regular meetings with the local MP and MLA, as well as a review of the Stronger Together agreement with Clearwater County.
