An attempted comeback fell just short as the Rocky Rams suffered a tough 6-5 loss Saturday Oct. 19 to the Red Deer Vipers.
The Rams stumbled out of the gate giving up three goals in the opening 10 minutes including a shorthanded goal from Red Deer forward Matthew Deaver.
The visiting Rams trailed 5-1 near midway point of the game, but began to stage a comeback seeing a late second period marker from Kyle Humphrey.
Cooper Lawrence, Dextin Dieterle-Reimer and Owen Green all found the net in the third, but the clock expired with the Rams trailing by one.
Cooper Lawrence and Jack Smith – two players who found the scoresheet on Saturday currently lead the HJHL in points with 19 and 23 respectively.
Head coach Wendall Mason credits depth and special teams players on the team such as Green and Quinn Schriver who have been key to their efforts.
The Rams, now on a three-game skid, will wrap up the road trip Friday Oct. 25 against the Mountainview Colts.
“I think the tactical end of our game is where we want it,” says Mason. “Guys are finding their groove with the system. It’s just execution now- we have to bear down and bury some pucks when we get our opportunities.”
The 4-5 Rams currently sit fourth in the Northern Division- a point back of third place Three Hills.
