Clearwater County’s development efforts in Nordegg continue to take shape as the installation of streetlights, shallow utilities, and sidewalk deficiency work is scheduled for fall 2024.
Newly acclaimed Clearwater County Reeve Michelle Swanson says work on new residential lots along Lilly Ave. is nearing completion with shallow infrastructure and utilities currently being installed. Swanson says the lots are expected to hit the market in the spring.
Revitalization work is also being proposed for the historic commercial core from along Elizabeth Ave. from Cherie Ave. to Center Street.
It includes 19 commercial lots complete with underground utilities.
As well, a realignment of Elizabeth Ave. at Cherie Ave. is currently being reviewed.
The 2024 budget for that project is $550,000.
Preliminary engineering is also underway for the development of commercial lots located west of Stuart St., north of the Discovery Center.
Officials say the old library that is located within this area is scheduled for removal this year. The waterline has been relocated and the building removal will be completed once the hazardous materials have been removed.

New water meters have also been installed at residential and commercial lots within the south hamlet of Nordegg, and billing through the water meter system began Oct. 1, 2024.
Swanson says phase two of the new 14-lot industrial area is nearly complete.
Officials say erosion control was completed on Oct. 16th. Shallow utilities including power and natural gas lines are expected to follow in fall 2024.
For folks who haven’t visited Nordegg in several years, Swanson adds they will likely notice some change within the hamlet, notably the renewed Nordegg Discovery Centre.
Swanson says development in Nordegg priorities will be discussed during Clearwater County’s strategic planning meeting set to be held Tuesday Oct. 29.
Council will be putting forth budget recommendations for how much will be developed in Nordegg from 2025-2026.
