Weather and poor road conditions factored in to a Rocky Rams home game getting cancelled on Nov. 23.
The team was set to play the 4-13-2 Three Hills Thrashers, however, the game has been postponed to a later date.
Head coach Wendall Mason says the team is currently looking at possible reschedule dates.
The fresh snow didn’t stop the Rams from hitting the road the following day for a date with the Wheatland Kings in Strathmore.
The team got out to a quick, two-goal lead early in the first period with markers from Owen Green and d-man Cole Fox.
However, the Rams’ lead evaporated in the second as the Kings mounted a comeback with three unanswered goals in the second period.
Reid Christiansen tied the game 3-3 with an early third period goal, however, the Kings’ Kobe Gosling’s powerplay goal a little under two minutes later proved to be the game winner.
Final score 4-3.
Mason says the team was simply “flat” in the second frame.
“I thought we bounced back in the third period,” says Mason. “But you have to compete for a full 60 minutes, and we didn’t do that.”
On the bright side, Mason says the critical special teams clicked during the match, with powerplay and penalty killing squads working effectively.
Now on a four-game losing skid, the 6-11 Rams will look to get back in the win column when they face the HJHL-leading Sylvan Lake Wranglers on Nov. 29.
“Our guys are geared up and looking forward to it,” says Mason. “It’ll be good hockey.”
Puck drop is 8:00 p.m. at the NexSource Centre in Sylvan Lake.
