The Fur Trade Christmas event is returning to the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, offering a day of family-friendly activities. Organized by the Confluence Heritage Society, this free event has been a holiday tradition for over 10 years, providing a chance for visitors to enjoy a variety of winter activities in a historic setting.
The day’s events include sleigh rides, tobogganing (bring your own sled), snowshoeing with Alberta Parks, and the opportunity to meet Fur Trade Santa.
A maple syrup demonstration on a popsicle stick will also be featured. Inside the venue, visitors can browse a vendor market and enjoy a free meal, available while supplies last. There will also be outdoor crafts and cookie decorating for children.
Emily Korolew, a volunteer with the Confluence Heritage Society, says to dress warmly for the event as the vast majority of activities occur outdoors.
Free transportation is available through Rocky Cabs—just call 403-895-300 and mention you’re attending Fur Trade Christmas.
Korolew says the cab service has been generously sponsored to ensure everyone in the community can enjoy the fun.
The event also encourages donations for the Lord’s Food Bank, with drop-offs available on-site.
Guests are encouraged to bring cash if they plan to shop at the vendor market as no ATM will be on site.
With something for everyone, Korolew says Fur Trade Christmas offers a wonderful way for the community to come together and celebrate the holiday season.
