The losses continue to mount for the Rocky Rams as the team dropped two games over the Dec. 13-15 weekend. The team has now lost 9 of its last ten games.
In a road game against the Airdire Techmation Thunder on Friday, the two teams traded goals throughout most of regulation, with Reid Christiansen scoring a game-tying goal with just 50 seconds left in the game.
The OT frame didn’t go the Rams’ way, however, as Airdrie forward Noah Edstrom found the net less than five minutes in.
The Rams played a home matinee heartbreaker against the Red Deer Vipers on Sunday. The team erased a 3-0 deficit in the second period with a goal from Cohen Carlson and back-to-back markers from Cooper Lawrence. However, Vipers’ forward Boyd Cota spoiled a would-be comeback with a game winning goal with just 33 seconds left in the game.
Despite the losses, the atmosphere in the dressing room remains upbeat, says head coach Wendall Mason.
“Guys have done extremely well,” says Mason. “Over the last three weeks- there have been games that we felt we deserved to win that just didn’t go our way.”
The Rams now fall to 7-15-1 in the HJHL’s Northern Division Standings— a full six points back of fifth place Three Hills.
The team has three more games to go before the Christmas break.
- They’ll meet the league-leading Sylvan Lake Wranglers on Dec. 20 at the Nexsource Centre.
- The team hosts the Mountainview Colts on Dec. 21 at the Rocky Arena
- In the final games before Christmas, the Rams will host the Three Hills Thrashers (a rescheduled game from Nov. 23, when poor road conditions precluded the teams from meeting).
Mason adds, the team is ready to play three back-to-back games, noting that it’s important for the team to capitalize and earn some points in the standings going into the New Year.
