The Rocky Health Foundation has received a boost this week with two significant donations, each for $100,000, helping it move closer to their $444,000 ‘Heart of the Community’ fundraising goal.
The two large donations, along with many others, represent over 50 per cent of the goal, says Rocky Health Foundation treasurer, Dale Shippelt, placing the foundation well on track to reach its goal. Shippelt emphasized that these contributions come from “great community-minded individuals” who prefer to remain anonymous.
In addition to the major donations, the foundation has also received contributions from local businesses and organizations. That includes support from the Dovercourt Community Club, Western Wheels Auto Club, a long service reward donation from AHS, a cake sale at Co-op, $555 in cash, along with several checks from community members, Shippelt added.

While the fundraising campaign, which just kicked off in November, is off to a strong start, Shippelt notes that certain challenges still face nonprofit organizations, including the Canada Post strike which delayed some mailed donations.
Looking ahead to 2025, Shippelt emphasized the foundation’s priority remains achieving the campaign’s goal. “Our focus is to reach the $444,000 target so we can move forward with purchasing the much-needed equipment for the hospital and ensure our community receives the best possible cardiac care.”
‘Heart of the Community’ aims to raise the necessary funds to provide 18 new cardiac monitoring devices that will replace aging equipment at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre.
Hospital officials say the existing equipment is a hodgepodge of monitors of varying ages, which staff have to learn along with all their eccentricities.
The modern equipment will serve diverse needs at the hospital, including the ability to monitor infants’ heartbeats and those in trauma situations.
The organization’s recent Healthy Hospital Campaign successfully met its goal of raising more than $750,000.
