Dovercourt Hall is once again giving back to the local community, raising around $21,000 through its weekly Tuesday night bingo games.
Acting President of Dovercourt Hall, Quentin McNutt, shared that this year, five local organizations received substantial donations, with the Rocky Health Foundation, STARS Air Ambulance, Ronald McDonald House, the Hospice Society, and food banks in Caroline and Rocky all benefiting.
He adds, each of the major organizations received $5,000, while the two food banks were each given $1,000 to support their operations. McNutt emphasized that the money for these donations comes directly from the proceeds of the bingo nights, which have become a staple of the community.
“Everyone from around the area and beyond is welcome to join us for bingo on Tuesday nights,” McNutt explained. “It’s been a wonderful way for us to raise funds, and without the support of our participants, none of this would be possible.”
Bingo at Dovercourt Hall takes place every Tuesday, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. and the games running from 7:00 p.m. to around 9:30 p.m., depending on the size of the jackpot. McNutt emphasized that the hall’s ability to generate substantial funds through these weekly events shows the power of community participation and the importance of maintaining local traditions.
Looking ahead, McNutt shared that Dovercourt Hall is already planning another event in the new year, a dance in April, to further raise funds for the hall and its ongoing initiatives. More information on the dance will be released in the coming months.
The Rocky Health Foundation launched its ‘Heart of the Community’ initiative back in November, which aims to raise $444,000 for cardiac heart monitors at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre. Before Christmas, Treasurer Dale Shippelt announced it was already over the half way point of achieving that goal.
