The Rocky Credit Union Co-Op Aquatic Centre is inviting community members to take part in its third annual Food Bank Swim on Jan. 30.
The event, benefitting the Lord’s Food Bank, offers free swimming access in exchange for a food donation.
From senior swims to preschool sessions, the Food Bank Swim will be available during all regularly scheduled swim programs throughout the day. Participants can simply bring a non-perishable food item to enjoy a swim at no cost.
“This is something we look forward to every year,” said Serina Roker, guest services representative at the Aquatic Centre. “It does seem to get more and more attention every year.”
While the total amount raised in past years has varied, Roker noted the event consistently collects several boxes of food donations for the Lord’s Food Bank.
This marks the third year for the event, which has become a staple of the Aquatic Centre’s winter programming. Local residents are encouraged to participate, whether it’s for a public swim, lane swim, or one of the other scheduled swim times throughout the day.
Donations will go directly to the Lord’s Food Bank, providing essential support to individuals and families in need in Rocky Mountain House.
