Spectators are welcome to take in the annual Evergreen Pond Hockey Tournament, which is set to run from from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, 2025.
Organizers say this year’s tournament comes with an exciting new addition—a kids’ tournament. This year marks the first time that young players will have their own event, alongside the adult competition.
The adult tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday, featuring 4-on-4 teams with the option of 5 or 6 players per team. It is one of the major fundraising events for Evergreen Community Hall, drawing residents together for a weekend of fun and friendly competition, says Mandy Mercia, president of the Evergreen Community Hall board.
After the adults take to the ice, residents are invited to cheer on the next generation of hockey players.
The kids’ tournament, which will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2, is open to children in two age groups: 8 to 12-years-old and 13 to 16-years-old.
For those eager to watch, the event will feature a range of activities throughout the weekend. Attendees can enjoy a bonfire, as well as entertainment and games inside the hall. There will also be a beer garden, concession stand, and raffle prizes, including 50/50 draws.
As a key fundraiser for Evergreen Hall, the tournament helps support the facility’s ongoing programs and improvements. The tournament has become a highly anticipated tradition, says Mercia, with people travelling from near and far to take part.
Attendees are even invited to camp in the hall’s parking lot for the weekend, she says, if you can brave the cold.
Registration for adult teams is open until Jan. 24, but teams can continue to sign up up until the week of the tournament, space permitting.
To register, or for more information, call 403-505-1443 or visit Evergreen Hall’s social media pages.
The hall is located south of Condor on Township Rd. 380.
