The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is searching for Derrick Phazar Whitford, 27, of O’Chiese First Nation.
Whitford was charged with second-degree murder in the November 2024 homicide of 18-year-old Travis Strawberry.
Whitford is also wanted on multiple unrelated charges, including breach of probation, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from peace officer, robbery, and firearm offences.
Despite efforts by RCMP to locate him, Whitford remains at large. He is believed to be in the O’Chiese or Sunchild First Nation areas, with ties to Red Deer and Edmonton.
Whitford is described as 6 feet tall, 138 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He may use the names Sunny, Sonny, Derrick Dumais, or Derrick Whitford-Dumais.
RCMP advise the public not to approach Whitford, as he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is urged to call 911.
