The Rocky Rams wrapped up their 2024-2025 season with two road losses to cap off a campaign that will see the team miss the HJHL playoffs.
A Feb. 7, road game against the Airdrie Techmation Thunder saw the team come back from a 3-1 second period deficit to tie the game early in the third with a marker from Quinn Shriver. However, Airdrie scored the eventual game winner with just under six minutes left in the frame en route to a 5-4 victory.
In the final game of the season, the Rams faced off against the Carstar Okotos Bisons. Similar to the game against the Thunder the night before, the Rams stormed back from an early deficit only to fall by one goal in regulation. Reid Christianson scored his 22nd goal of the season to bring the Rams to within one goal of tying with just under nine minutes left to play; however, the Rams couldn’t find the equalizer. Final score: 5-4 Okotoks.
Head coach Wendall Mason says it wasn’t the season the team was hoping for.
“There have been a lot of one-goal games where we felt we were the better team,” says Mason. “Either we didn’t get a save at a key moment or we had a bad bounce. When you’re hot, you’re hot and when you’re not, you’re not. Unfortunately it hasn’t gone as well as we hoped it would.”
The Rams ended the season losing eight of its last 10, with a 12-25-1 record.
Three Hills and Airdrie will kick off the HJHL Northern Division playoffs Feb. 11 at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.
