The Town of Rocky Mountain House is looking to set up meetings in the future with provincial government ministers regarding the twinning of Highway 11.
At a leadership caucus on March 10, Mayor Debbie Baich had the opportunity to speak with Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Transportation, regarding the twinning of Highway 11. Minister Sawhney informed Mayor Baich, the government is still considering it and reviewing it but could not guarantee at that time any further developments. Mayor Baich would later speak with Minister Sawhney in a formal meeting.
According to Mayor Baich, a concern for both her and council is if the twinned portion of Highway 11 to Rocky is completed before a path that connects Highway 22 north and south as well as highway 11 east and west. Baich says this part of the highway is a busy trade route and sees a lot more traffic than normal.
Council recently agreed to set up a meeting with Minister Sawhney, Minister of Environment and Parks, Jason Nixon, and Minister of Municipal Affairs, Ric McIver, for further discussions on the future and ongoing twinning of Highway 11.
