The Rocky Rams wrapped up their regular season Friday against the Three Hills Thrashers.
In the first period, the Rams started off strong when Nick Jervis netted the game’s first goal just 41 seconds into the period. The Rams continued to press the Thrashers and it payed off when Kolby McCurrach gave the Rams a 2-0 lead when he scored on the power play. The Rams had a great first period even though the Thrashers out shot them 16-12.
The second period started off just as strong when Kolby McCurrach scored his second goal of the game just 57 seconds into the period, giving the Rams a 3-0 lead. The Rams would bend a bit in the second period as they gave up two power play goals. The Rams Parker Stewart would then score on the power play to make it 4-2 after 40 minutes. The Rams had a great second period, outshooting the Thrashers 18-15.
The Rams proceeded to get another early period goal just over one minute into the third period as Grady Mofford would put the Rams up 5-2. The Rams kept their foot on the gas though as they would score 2:28 later when Nick Jervis scored his second goal of the game to make it 6-2. The Rams would eventually give up another goal, however, when Caylen Cey scored at 17:45 in the third, which would be the last goal of the game as the Rams would hold onto the lead, winning 6-3 and outshooting the Thrashers 46-45.
The Rams, who finished sixth in the Northern Division with a record of 15-21-0, will take on the Sylvan Lake Wrangles who placed third in the division with a record of 23-10—3. The two teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs. The first game is Wednesday, Feb. 9 in Sylvan Lake at the NexSource Centre. Puck drop is 8:15 p.m.
