Residents living on 56 Street in Rocky Mountain House will no longer have to deal with water ponding on their street.
Ponding is when there is a water build up either on a street, in a park or anywhere water can build up and has no place to drain.
Town officials say, Engineering and Operations has responded to numerous complaints of the ponding, even before the repair of the service break further down the block which made the problem worse. Officials say the gutter line in front of 56 Street is very flat, which prevents the water from draining. This makes it difficult for residents to park and leads to severe ice build up during the freeze/dry cycles. Town officials note, on occasion it was sucked up by utilizing the Town’s vac truck, as there was no other way to get rid of the water.
Project manager Sean LaFrance went before town council asking for an additional $52,000 to fix all the extra work down 56 Street. The $52,000 request would be coming from the Roads Reserve Fund. Councillor Dave Auld added, “I have seen that area firsthand, and it definitely needs some work. It affects all the residents down the street. I’m in favour of getting it repaired properly this time and moving forward.”
After a brief discussion, council unanimously approved the motion to fix 56 Street.
