The 47 annual Alberta Trappers Rendezvous and Outdoorsman Sale will be held in Rocky Mountain House this year.
The Alberta Trappers Association (ATA) is a non-profit, provincial organization which represents and serves the needs of the trapping community in Alberta. The ATA also strives to promote outdoor education in communities throughout the province with a focus on youth.
ATA officials note, this is accomplished through structured conservation and skill development opportunities, mentoring programs and presentations to schools and youth organizations. The Alberta Trappers Association’s mission is to ensure trapping continues in Alberta as a way of life that promotes respect for wildlife and stewardship for the land.
According to ATA officials, the 2022 rendezvous will host a coming together of trappers, hunters, researchers and conservationists from diverse communities and cultures across Alberta, Canada and beyond. Also there will be representatives from the ATA, businesses, government and Indigenous communities to celebrate a collective desire to enrich and preserve sustainable use on Alberta’s landscapes.
Officials say the event gathers upwards of 1,00o people from all walks of life and interests. The rendezvous includes:
• Trade show with a wide variety of vendors and services.
• Workshops and demonstrations by some of Canadas most skilled and experienced trappers.
• Seminars and presenters profiling world class initiatives and research partnership projects with Environment Canada and Alberta universities.
Key note speakers include:
• Jason Nixon, MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre, Minister of Enviroment and Parks, House Leader.
• Dr. Mark Boyce, Wildlife Biologist and ACA Chair in Fisheries and Wildlife.
• Mark Downy of Fur Harvesters Auction and Dave Eckels of the Fur Takers of America.
There will also be a live and silent auction, as well as a Friday night BBQ and beer. On Saturday, there will be a night banquet and dance.
The annual rendezvous will be held July 1 and 2 at the Christenson Sports and Wellness Centre.
The ATA is also looking for more volunteers. To volunteer, contact the ATA at 780-349-6626.
