From March 1 to October 31, 2022, all burning activities in Alberta’s Forest Protection Area (FPA), excluding campfires, requires a fire permit.
That according to Clearwater County officials who say fire permits are free and can be obtained by contacting your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office or by visiting firepermits.alberta.ca.
County officials are also informing the public that burn notifications are required to be submitted 24 hours prior to lighting a burn. Officials add, burn notifications are not burn permits. Permits are issued by the Province and have their own enforcement (fines, etc.) mechanism. Clearwater County requires a burn notification be completed before you begin the burn (except for campfires) within the municipal boundary.
If you are planning on burning within corporate limits of the Village of Caroline, you must fill out a written permit. Written permits can be obtained at Regional Fire Headquarters at 4504-42 Street Rocky Mountain House. If you are planning a burn within corporate limits of the Town of Rocky Mountain House, you must contact the Planning Department at 403-845-2866.
