The Rocky Rams were back in action with two road games over the weekend.
On Saturday the Rams would travel to Red Deer for a game against the Vipers.
The Rams started on the wrong foot though when Boyd Cota of the Vipers would score just 6:46 into the first period. However, shortly after, Nick Jervis would even up the score 1-1 on the Rams powerplay with the assist coming from Kyle Humphrey. The tie would not last long as Riley Turre of the Vipers scored to reclaim Red Deer’s lead 2-1. The Rams were not done yet as they tied the game late into the first when Kyle Goodrunning found the back of the back of the net, sending it to the second period tied 2-2.
During the second period the Rams would find themselves getting out shot 13-10 but would be the only team to score after Kyle Goodrunning would get his second goal of the game assisted by Kendrick Robinson, giving the Rams a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.
The third period would see the Vipers go on the attack as they doubled the Rams in shots 19-8. The Vipers hard work would pay off early after Andrew Wallace would score an unassisted goal on the penalty kill 5:36 into the period tying the game 3-3, which would be the only goal of the final frame, sending the game to overtime.
Overtime did not settle the game though, so the Rams and Vipers would find themselves in a shootout.
Up first in the shootout for the Rams was Tristan Hoffus who did not score. The Vipers would then send their first shooter Andrew Wallace who did score which would be the lone goal of the shootout giving the Vipers a 4-3 victory over the Rams.
The Rams, however, had a chance to bounce back on Sunday when they travelled to Okotoks to play the Carstar Bisons. Unfortunately, the Rams would not skate away with a win as they fell 7-2.
The Rams are back in action Saturday Oct. 8, when they travel to Medicine Hat for a date with the Cubs. Puck drop is 3:00 p.m. at Kinplex.
