The Rocky Rams split another set of games over the weekend.
On Friday, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder came into Rocky for a road game against the Rams.
In the first period the Rams came out with their foot on the gas and it would pay off after a Tristan Hoffus goal at 7:39 with assists coming from Nick Jervis and Reid Christiansen giving the Rams a 1-0 led. Just over a minute later, Caleb Christiansen would score for the Rams, with Cale Stecyk and Ethan Tayles getting the assists and giving the Rams a 2-0 lead. However, at 19:06 Dace Carlson of the Thunder would score a shorthanded goal to make it 2-1 for the Rams after 20 minutes.
After a successful first period for the Rams, the Thunder would take control for the rest of the game, posting 22 shots to Rocky’s 6 in the second period. The Thunder would also score two goals in the second, one from Jared Miller and the other from Joey Haden, making the score 3-2 Thunder.
The third period saw much of the same. The Thunder outshot the Rams 19-13 and would add three more goals (Jacob Cathcart twice and one from Reed Chalmers), and would skate away with a 6-2 win over the Rams.
The Rams special teams struggled throughout the game, giving up two shorthanded goals and going 0/5 on the powerplay.
However, the Rams were back in action on Saturday when they traveled to Three Hills to play the Thrashers.
The Rams struck first in the game at 10:17 after Tristan Hoffus would score his 10th goal of the year, with assists coming from Kyle Humphrey and Cale Stecyk. The Rams would then score at 11:31 to take a 2-0 lead after Quinn Tomalty found the back of the net, with assists coming from Noah Wilson and Reid Christiansen. The Thrashers, however, would manage to score a late period shorthanded goal, when the league leader in goals, Andrew Chapman, would score his 22nd of the year, making it 2-1 after the first period.
In the second period it was the Thrashers scoring first to tie the game 2-2 after Riggs Ringdahl found the back of the net, with assists coming from Devan Boos and Colton Geier. The tie game was short lived after the Rams would take the lead back 3-2 after Tristan Hoffus would score his second goal of the game with assists coming from Grady Mofford and Cale Stecyk, which ended up being the game winning goal.
The Thrashers kept pushing though and would outshoot the Rams 14-8 in the final period, but Zaiden Hansen held his ground between the pipes, stopping 36 of the 38 shots he faced.
The Rams are back in action on Friday when the Three Hills Thrashers come to town. Puck drop is 8:30 at the Rocky Arena.
