There was some special recognition for a pair of local residents this week.
At the December 20, 2022 Clearwater County council meeting, the Honourable Gerald Soroka, Yellowhead Member of Parliament, presented Deputy Reeve Gennifer Mehlhaff and Clearwater County resident, Cammie Laird, with Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Pins.
Officials say each Member of Parliament was provided with 70 pins to distribute to community members who have shown a commitment to making the lives of their neighbours better and, who have demonstrated exceptional service and dedication in support of the community.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne. In celebration of this historic milestone, limited-edition pins and medals were created as certificates of recognition to exceptional community leaders.
According to officials, the commemorative medal was created to recognize outstanding community leaders and contributors. Reeve Daryl Lougheed was a recipient of this medal earlier this year at the Rural Municipalities of Alberta 2022 Fall Convention.
Jim Duncan, Clearwater County resident, was also awarded a medal. Duncan has served on countless boards over the years and as a former councillor and reeve for Clearwater County from 2010-2021, continues to sit on several County boards.
“It is an honour to be recognized for my service with Clearwater County,” said Reeve Daryl Loughheed. “We are lucky to have so many residents that step up in ways that leave such a lasting impact in our communities. Congratulations to Deputy Reeve Gennifer Mehlhaff, former councillors and reeves Cammie Laird and Jim Duncan. It is truly a privilege to work, and have worked amongst each of you.”
