The Rocky Rams were back in action this week with a pair of games.
On Friday the Rams travelled to Sylvan Lake for a date with the Wranglers.
In the first period, it was the Wranglers striking first just over two minutes into the game after a Tate Causey goal. Keenan Green and Payton Wright were credited with the assists. The Wranglers would keep up the pressure in the first period outshooting the Rams 19-4 and it would pay off as Tate Causey would score his second goal of the game at the twelve minute mark to give the Wranglers a 2-0 lead. Austin Corsiatto would get the only assist.
In the second period it was Kyle Goodrunning getting the Rams on the scoresheet at 8:34 and cutting down the lead 2-1, with Kyle Humphrey and Caleb Andrew getting the assists. The Wranglers kept on pushing though and would reclaim a two goal lead after Austin Corsiatto would score his league leading 32nd goal of the year, with Hayden Motowylo and Aydden Shaw earning the assists. Heading into the third period the Wranglers had a 3-1 lead.
In the third period the Rams came to life after a Tristan Hoffus goal at 6:58, with the assists coming off the sticks of Landon Green and Jake Smith. The Rams would keep up the pressure in the third period and it would pay off as Jake Smith would tie the game 3-3 at 18:26, with Kyle Humphrey and Nick Jervis assisting on the play. This would send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Wranglers defensemen Ethan Alvarez would take a two minute boarding penalty at 1:52 to put the Rams on their second powerplay of the game and at 2:40 into overtime the Rams would make them pay after Grady Mofford would find the back of the net for the game winning goal with assists coming from Nick Jervis and Quinn Tomalty.
Rams goalie Lex Watson had a great game between the pipes keeping the Rams in it and stopping 41 out of the 44 shots he faced.

On Sunday the Rams hosted the Red Deer Vipers, which was a makeup game for the one that was cancelled on Nov. 5.
In the first period it was the battle of goalies as Rams net minder Zaiden Hanson stopped all 16 shots he faced. Vipers Goalie Josh Hilts also gave the Rams shooters nothing, stopping all eight shots. The Rams also stopped the Vipers on all three of their powerplays in the first period while managing to go 0/2 on the powerplay themselves.
In the second period Jake Smith of the Rams would sneak one by the Vipers goalie at 5:12 giving the Rams a 1-0 lead, with Kyle Goodrunning and Kyle Humphrey getting the assists. However, the lead was short lived because just 1:02 later, Lynden Robertson would get the Vipers on the board to tie the game 1-1. Dawson Jones and Marcus Laisnez got the assists.
In the third and final period, Andrew Wallace of the Vipers would score just 54 seconds in to give his team a 2-1 lead. The Rams would fire nine more shots in the final period but Vipers goalie Josh Hilts held his ground. In the dying seconds of the third period, Andrew Wallace would find the back of the net for his second goal of the game and his 23rd goal of the year, while Brandon Kalinowski would get the loan assist, helping the Vipers head back to Red Deer with a 3-1 victory over the Rams.
The Rams are currently sitting in fourth place in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Northern Division with a record of 11-18-5.
The Rams are back in action Feb. 3, when they head to Sylvan Lake to take on the Wranglers. Puck drop 8:00 p.m. at the NexSource Centre.
