The Rocky Rams lost 6-4 yesterday in Red Deer vs the Vipers to force a game three.
In the first period, it was the Vipers outshooting the Rams 12-7. The Rams would also not score on the loan powerplay they had, while also managing to kill off two penalties. After the first 20 minutes of action the game was tied 0-0.
In the second period it was the Vipers getting first blood after an Andrew Wallace goal. Kyle Wallace and Keaton Mackenzie-Clermont earned the assists on the power play goal at 6:18 of the second period. However, just over one minute later, Rams defenseman Noah Wilson would tie the game 1-1, with assists coming Cale Stecyk and Quinn Tomalty. The back and forth action continued in the second period when Alex Litster of the Vipers would reclaim the lead 2-1. Dawson Jones and Lynden Robertson earned the assists. The Rams would even the game up at 2-2 after captain Nick Jervis scored an unassisted goal on the powerplay at 13:21. The Rams would then get put on the powerplay again and would score another powerplay goal at 16:31 after a Cale Stecyk shot putting the Rams up 3-2. Nick Jervis earned the only assist. Special teams would continue to be a factor as it was the Vipers who would find the back of the net on the powerplay, this time when former Rams forward Silas Buijs evened the game back up 3-3. Andrew Wallace and Lynden Robertson earned the assists.
In the third period the Vipers would take the lead back 4-3 after Alex Litster scored his second goal of the game. Kyle Wallace and Brandon Kalinowski earned the assists. Just over three minutes later the Vipers would gather a two goal lead 5-3 after Andrew Wallace got his second goal of the game, which was unassisted. However, the Rams would push back at 17:11 after a powerplay goal from Reid Christiansen. Jake Smith earned the loan assist. The Rams would pull their goalie late in the period in hopes of tying the game and sending it to overtime but the Vipers had a different plan because at 19:48 Kyle Wallace would put the icing on the cake with an unassisted empty net goal to push the Vipers to a 6-4 victory.
The final game of the series is Saturday, Feb. 18, when the Vipers roll into town to decide which team will move on to the second round. Puck drop is at 7:30 at the Rocky Arena.
