The Rocky Rams suffered a game one lose to the Sylvan Lake Wranglers 3-2 yesterday in double overtime.
In the first period, the Wranglers would score the only goal of the game at 19:35 after Karson Ledieu found the back of the net, giving the Wranglers a 1-0 lead. Payton Wright earned the loan assist. The Rams would also get outshot by the Wranglers 17-9 in the opening frame. The Rams would also go 0/2 on the powerplay, but also managed to kill the only penalty they took.
In the second period the the Rams would tie the game 1-1 after Tristan Hoffus scored his first goal of the playoffs. Captain Nick Jervis would get the only assist. However, just over two minutes later the Wranglers would reclaim the lead 2-1 after Karson Ledieu would score his second goal of the game. Ethan Alvarez earned the assist. The Rams would also continue their struggle on the powerplay, not scoring on their only one of the period.
In the third period, Jake Smith of the Rams would tie the game back up 2-2 at 10:03. Kyle Humphrey earned the only assist. The Rams would end up taking four minor penalties throughout the third period but their penalty kill did a great job killing them all off. Throughout 60 minutes the game was tied 2-2 so this game was heading to overtime.
In the first overtime period the Rams would miss on their only powerplay, finishing the game 0/5. The Rams would also get outshot 11-9.
In the second overtime period the game finally saw its hero at 13:30 after Wranglers forward Konnor Green would sneak one by Rams goalie Lex Watson for the game winning goal, 3-2, meaning the Wranglers would take game one of the best of seven series.
Despite the loss, Rams goalie Lex Watson kept his team in it, stopping 52 of the 55 shots he faced.
Game two of the best of seven series takes place in Rocky on Friday at the Rocky Arena. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m.
