Rocky Mountain House RCMP along with the Rimbey and Sundre detachments have identified three community policing priorities that they shared with Clearwater County council this week.
Staff Sergeant Carl Dinsdale with the Rocky Mountain House RCMP detachment said their first priority is crime reduction. In this quarter during regular checks on prolific offenders, 43 different curfew checks were done by the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) as well as executing 66 arrest warrants, which Dinsdale said is one of their main jobs. Dinsdale added, the CRU team has continued to be involved in the preparation of Judicial Authorizations which has resulted in the seizure of illegal firearms, illicit drugs and stolen property.
At priority two, the RCMP listed traffic safety. This quarter, Dinsdale said 293 violator contacts and four check-stops were completed. He further noted that overall, 200 charges were laid in total in relation to traffic safety offences. However, fall and winter patterns were down from the previous year, which Dinsdale said is still a primary concern for the RCMP.
The third priority, according to RCMP, is prolific offenders/drug trafficking. Dinsdale notes, this quarter saw seven new trafficking investigations, with one proceeding to charge, one with charges recommended but declined by the Federal Crown, one investigation still ongoing, and four concluded due to lack of evidence.
