The newly redesigned Nordegg Discovery Centre (NDC) will open May long weekend for mine site tour ticket sales.
Officials with Clearwater County say the NDC is a hub that combines the visitor information centre and interpretive centre to showcase and celebrate history, culture, and the environment while also serving as an information hub that introduces visitors to the area and their next adventure.
At council’s Strategic Planning meeting on April 17, 2023, officials say a report on the feedback heard from a community engagement session was presented by the Alberta based consulting firm, Hatlie Group. County officials say the NDC Exhibition Renewal Project began in October 2021 with a two-part phased approach.
Phase 1: Planning & Development focused its efforts on strategy, business planning, and interpretation planning to set the stage for Phase 2, which will be the development, fabrication, and installation of the renewed NDC exhibits coming next year in 2024.
Clearwater County says it has developed a strategy for the NDC that draws from the community feedback solicited in 2022. From this strategy, officials say the team highlighted values to set a foundation for the project through community, respect, history, and creativity.
Starting May 19, 2023, the NDC will open the main entrance and visitor information centre to the public (Phase 1) providing access to the library, washrooms, and ticket sales for the Brazeau Collieries Mine Site Tours. Visit the Clearwater County website to learn more.
