A low pressure system has brought significant precipitation amounts to west-central Alberta, from Saturday June 17, until Tuesday June 20.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, most of the precipitation fell as rain, however, western areas of the province also received snow. Between 20 cm and 60 cm was reported over parts of Jasper National Park and Highway 40 (between Grande Cache and Cadomin).
Officials note, along with hazardous road conditions, the heavy wet snow also created tree damage and power outages.
Precipitation totals as of 2:00 p.m. June 20, for local areas are (totals are in millimeters):
- Nordegg – 129.7 mm
- Rocky Mountain House – 63.8 mm
Other areas include:
- Hendrickson Creek – 174.1 mm
- Carrot Creek – 141.3 mm
- Evansburg – 130.6 mm
- Willow Creek – 128.2 mm
- Edson – 125.3 mm
- Breton Plots – 112.7 mm
