Effective July 1, 2023, lost or at-large dogs captured by the Town of the Rocky Mountain House’s protective services team are to be kenneled by the Town and Alberta Animal Services.
The Town’s existing kenneling service agreement with Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue (ROAR) expired on June 30, 2023. ROAR declined a temporary contract extension while a new agreement was being negotiated, prompting the Town to find an alternate kenneling arrangement.
As per the Town’s Procurement Policy, the Town will be issuing a Request for Proposals for a new kenneling agreement. ROAR is invited to participate in this process.
Town officials say that Animal Control priorities remain the safety and well-being of residents and animals, prompt reunion of pets with their owners, and fiscal responsibility on behalf of the residents of Rocky Mountain House.
Laura Button, Communication Coordinator for the Town of Rocky Mountain House said that in 2021, 14 dogs were kenneled on behalf of the town, with all but one claimed by its owner. In 2022, 15 dogs were kenneled, 12 of which were claimed by their owner. In the first six months of 2023, eight dogs were kenneled; all eight have since been claimed by their owner.
