Rocky Mountain House town council has approved a small community grant request for the Terry Fox Run.
Cheryl Terpsma, local Terry Fox Run organizer stated in a letter to council that her team was seeking $450 to put towards event signage, in hopes of raising awareness and inspiring participants, not just this year but also in the future.
Terpsma also said in the letter she is hoping to grow the participant numbers in years to come,. There were 30 participants in 2021, then 22 in 2022.
“I definitely support this small grant. I’ve done this run before and it definitely needs to have more awareness,” said Councillor Tina Hutchinson. “Signage would be a very helpful thing to get more people out there and involved with it.”
A Town official told council that the grant request would fit into the municipal budget for grants.
Mayor Debbie Baich put the motion forward for council to approve the grant request, which was unanimously approved.
The 2023 Terry Fox Run will be on Sept. 17, starting at the Rocky Regional Recreation Centre. Registration is at 12:30 p.m. with the run to follow at 1:00.
