The Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) is bringing back its First Rider event.
WRSD officials say First Rider introduces young children and their parents to school bus safety. They note the event is especially important for those taking the school bus for the first time.
Officials say participating children will start by watching a video of Winnie-the-Pooh as he rides a school bus for the first time. They will then learn about safety priorities at the bus stop, conduct a safety evacuation and discover the ‘danger zone’ around the bus where incidents are most likely to occur. Finally, children and their parents hop on a school bus for a 10-minute ride and learn about loading and exiting the bus correctly.
This event is at no charge and parents/guardians must accompany their child throughout this event.
First Rider is taking place on Aug. 23 at the West Central High School parking lot from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Aug. 24 at the Frank Maddock parking lot from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
