The puck dropped on the Rocky Rams season over the weekend, which saw them split their games.
In the first game, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder came to town in hopes of starting their season off on the right foot. However, the Rocky Rams had different plans.
In the first period, the shots were even with each team getting five, no team would find the back of the net.
In the second period, the Rams came to life outshooting the Thunder 18-4. All of the shots and continued pressure from the Rams would pay off at 3:13 in the period as Owen Green for the Rams would open the scoring with a powerplay goal. Cameron Moir and Tristan Hoffus assisted on the goal.
In the third period the Rams would keep up the pressure after Kyle Goodruunning would score 6:23 into third period to take a 2-0 lead, Clayton Johnson and Owen Green earned the assists. At 14:53 the Rams would take a 3-0 lead after Reid Christiansen would find the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Jake Smith and Grady Mofford assisted on the goal. Rams forward Reid Christiansen would score his second goal of the game at 17:26 to improve the Rams lead to 4-0. Jake Smith and Kyle Humphrey would gather the assists.
The Rams would finish Saturday’s game with an impressive 4-0 win. The Rams would also outshoot the Thunders 36-15.
Rams goalie, Lex Watson, would earn his first victory and first shutout of the season.

On Sunday, the Rams were looking to build off their victory from the night before as the Strathmore Wheatland Kings came into town.
In the first period, the Rams would open the scoring after a Reid Christiansen goal. Quinn Tomalty would earn the loan assist. The Rams would keep pressure on the Kings and it would pay off, scoring a shorthanded goal from the stick of Reid Christiansen, unassisted and making it his second goal of the game, and fourth in just two games. The Rams had a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
In the second period, the Wheatland Kings came alive after Ethan Van Egmond scored a powerplay goal just 49 seconds into the period to cut into the Rams lead 2-1. Steve Newell and Chase Tweit earned the assists. The Kings weren’t done there as they would tie the game 2-2 at 10:31, with the goal coming from Charlie Goll and assisted by Kobe Gosling. However, the Rams would push back and Tristian Hoffus would score an unassisted shorthanded goal at 17:07 to take the lead back 3-2. Meanwhile, with the visitors still on the powerplay, they would tie the game back up 3-3, with a Chase Tweit goal, and Ethan Van Egmond earning the solo assist.
In the final frame, Kage Yellowfly of the Wheatland Kings would score the game winning goal just 26 second into the third period, on the power play, with O’Shea Red Crow and Ethan Van Egmond gathering the assists.
The Rams struggled on the powerplay, going 0/4, while their penalty kill struggled at times, giving up three powerplay goals.
The Rocky Rams are back in action Friday, Sept. 29, vs the High River Brewing Co. Flyers. Puck drop is at 8:30 at the Rocky Arena.
